Lumpy Old Mine Cut Diamonds

Old Mine Cut diamonds were first cut in the 1700’s and they were popular prior to the Old European Cut diamonds. They are known for their squarish to rectangular outline when they were well cut, similar to a Cushion Cut. However, many of these diamonds were not well cut and today they are known as “lumpy Old Miners.” This 18k yellow gold pin is circa 1840 and it contains these lumpy diamonds. Diamond cutting styles helps circa date a jewelry piece.
